01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Battlebound was a US-based web3 game studio founded in 2021 that previously created Evaverse, a metaverse game. Its flagship project was Anterris, a creature-collecting open-world blockchain game that promised a rich, explorable world - by land, air and sea - in the spirit of Pokémon. The studio raised $8 million in 2022 and spent four years building Anterris with a small, lean team, but the game never made it past playtests.

02 / Battlebound FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Battlebound simply ran out of money. After four years of building Anterris on a lean team, the studio had been extending its runway as far as possible while trying to secure a new funding round - but the money never came. In the studio's own words, it was 'in the same position as many studios before us, closing our doors due to remarkably challenging market dynamics': venture funding for web3 gaming had collapsed by 2024-2025, and even a well-received public playtest in February 2025 could not unlock the next round. With no funds left to keep the team afloat, the studio announced its shutdown on March 11, 2025.
