01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
BastionZero was a Boston-based cybersecurity startup founded in 2019 by CEO Sharon Goldberg and CTO Ethan Heilman. Its Zero Trust infrastructure access platform gave developers and DevOps teams passwordless, fine-grained access to servers, Kubernetes clusters and databases - a VPN-replacement approach using a multi-root trustless protocol that granted only the right access at the right time. The company raised a $6 million seed round in 2022 led by Dell Technologies Capital, with participation from Akamai and DG Daiwa Ventures. In May 2024 it was acquired by Cloudflare for an undisclosed sum and integrated into the Cloudflare One secure access service edge (SASE) platform.
