DoneByNone
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
DoneByNone was a Gurgaon, India-based private-label women's fashion e-tailer. Launched in February 2011 as Handspick and rebranded as DoneByNone in 2012, it sold a curated, frequently refreshed assortment of women's apparel, bags, accessories, and shoes online, backed by early-stage venture firm Seedfund.
02 / DoneByNone FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
DoneByNone could not survive India's fiercely competitive e-commerce market. The three co-founders quit the company in late 2014 after failing to raise further investment, and the site went inactive in January 2015. Customer fulfillment problems in late 2014 had already damaged trust, and without fresh funding the small private-label retailer could not keep pace with heavily funded rivals.
