Mosaicoon
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mosaicoon was a Sicilian scaleup founded in 2010 by Ugo Parodi Giusino, owner of a technology platform for the production and distribution of online videos. Its 'Human Creativity Engine' was a data-driven marketplace connecting professional video creators with brands and agencies: creators monetized original videos, brands got thousands of high-quality creatives with 85% less production time. At its peak it counted 140+ employees in 6 countries, won the Italian prize for innovation and was recognized among Europe's top scaleups. After investments from Vertis Venture and Atlante Ventures (Intesa Sanpaolo), it could not raise further financing and went bankrupt.
02 / Mosaicoon FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Mosaicoon scaled too fast on too little capital. After an €8 million Series B in 2016 and a €2.4 million Series A in 2012, the company expanded to 140+ employees across 6 countries (Milan, Rome, London, Singapore, New Delhi, Seoul). But it could not raise further financing after its Vertis Venture and Atlante Ventures rounds — and without fresh capital the burn from its international footprint forced it into bankruptcy.

How the factors connect
- 01
Mosaicoon raised about €10.4 million across its rounds (€2.4M Series A in 2012, €8M Series B in 2016). No audited loss figure with disclosed subject, period and basis was extracted from available coverage — the €10.4M is total capital raised, not loss.
