01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

MAYHT was a Dutch audio-technology startup founded by brothers Mattias and Timothy Scheek. It developed Heartmotion, a speaker-driver technology that claimed to reinvent the inside of a speaker - up to ten times more compact, flatter and lighter than conventional drivers without compromising sound, range or output. The company showcased a prototype at CES 2022 in January, including a light-powered Bluetooth speaker, and was acquired by Sonos in April 2022 for approximately $100 million in cash. Heartmotion later became the basis of Sonos's Sound Motion technology used in the Arc Ultra soundbar.
