ADAMOS
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
ADAMOS was a manufacturer-neutral industrial IoT (IIoT) platform based in Darmstadt, Germany. Founded in 2017 by Software AG together with mechanical and plant engineering firms Duerr, DMG MORI, ZEISS, and ASM, it offered a digital marketplace and app store for industrial software, plus connecting technology for cross-manufacturer data exchange and app integration on the shop floor. Its partner network included Duerr, DMG MORI, ZEISS, ENGEL, Karl Mayer, and many other machine builders.
02 / ADAMOS FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
ADAMOS was wound down as part of the industry-wide end of the IoT platform era: the value of IoT as a standalone capability proved limited, hyperscalers including SAP, Google, and IBM exited their IoT platform businesses in 2022, and major players like Siemens folded their IIoT offerings into broader portfolios, leaving a dedicated multi-vendor industrial IoT platform without a viable future.
