01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mila is a San Francisco consumer hardware startup led by co-founder and CEO Grant Prigge that makes a smart, design-led air purifier. It debuted on Kickstarter in 2019 with an air cleaner offering swappable filters for different use cases - allergies, a baby's room, VOCs - plus an array of built-in sensors, including carbon monoxide detection, and a plain-language air-quality app. The seed round was led by Electrolux, and in December 2022 Mila closed a $10 million Series A led by Cercano Management (the former venture arm of Paul Allen's investment firm) at a $52 million post-money valuation. At CES 2024 it launched the Mila Air 3 with Apple HomeKit integration, and its products continue to appear in current best-air-purifier roundups.
