Mantle
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Mantle (HeyMantle, heymantle.com) was a billing and revenue analytics platform built for Shopify app developers, helping them handle metered usage billing, subscriptions and clean revenue reporting - the complex billing work that sat outside Shopify's native tooling. In May 2024 it acquired SASI (App Store Analytics), the app-store-optimization tracker. In 2026 the company told customers it was winding down with no new owner taking over.
02 / Mantle FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Mantle was overtaken by its own platform. On May 12, 2026, Shopify launched Shopify App Pricing, making usage-based billing, an Active Subscription API and a Historical API native platform features - the exact layer Mantle sold, including its core advantage in metered billing and revenue analytics. The company wound down cleanly rather than competing with a platform that had absorbed its value, not from running out of runway; SASI's keyword and ranking tracking shut down with it.
03 / EVENT HISTORY
Events in the structured record
- Operations ended
On 16 June 2026 Mantle’s official docs announced a complete wind-down/shutdown of all Mantle properties with eventual data destruction (no acquirer), with non-billing services ending 14 Aug 2026 and billing accounts supported through 30 Sep 2026.
