01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Quanmin TV (全民直播, quanmin.tv), founded in 2015 in Shanghai, was a sports and entertainment live-streaming platform competing with China's game-livestreaming giants (Douyu, Huya, Panda TV). It raised about $75 million as China's 2016 livestreaming boom drew hundreds of millions of viewers.
02 / Quanmin TV FAILURE REASONS
Why it failed
Quanmin TV was a casualty of the live-streaming wars' economics: platforms burned cash on expensive streamer contracts and bandwidth while regulators tightened content rules (Quanmin.tv was among platforms penalized in a 2017 Ministry of Culture inspection). Unable to reach the financing scale of rivals Douyu and Huya, it was one of the smaller players killed off by the fierce competition before Panda TV's 2019 closure - a consolidation wave that left very few platforms standing.
