01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
tZERO Group is a blockchain-based liquidity platform for private companies and assets, spun out of Overstock and launched in 2014. Through its regulated broker-dealer subsidiaries it offers issuers institutional-grade tools to digitize their cap tables via blockchain and trade equity on an alternative trading system, opening private markets to broker-dealers, institutions and investors. The company holds a patent portfolio of over 100 patents covering compliant transfers, smart contracts and real-time settlement, closed a security token offering in August 2018, and in September 2024 became only the second US firm approved to custody digital assets. Backed by an Intercontinental Exchange investment (2022) and an August 2026 partnership with ICE to design its NYSE-affiliated tokenized securities platform, tZERO remains an active player in regulated tokenization.
