01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Teamometer was a Brazilian HR SaaS built by a team in Porto Alegre. The product helped managers build high-performing teams by identifying issues within them: users filled in assessments and the software surfaced problems with team dynamics. The company was bootstrapped with about $3,000 and ran a freemium model.

02 / Teamometer FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

After two years and $3,000 invested, Teamometer had zero revenue. The founder's own postmortem is blunt: the product was a nice-to-have, not a must-have — 'Coca-Cola in the desert, not water in the desert.' It helped managers identify team issues, but that was never enough to make anyone buy; much of it could be replaced by a spreadsheet or Google Form. Validation was skipped entirely. The freemium go-to-market was completely unsuitable for Brazil, where SaaS and freemium were unknown around 2012 and would have required costly hands-on sales. Part-time co-founders added little and moved too slowly; two of them left, and the remaining founder — needing money — shut the company down.
