01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Nivaura was a London-based regulated fintech that automated the issuance and administration of financial instruments — bonds, equities, derivatives — using blockchain technology. Founded in 2016 by Dr. Avtar Sehra, its flagship platform Aurora helped banks, issuers, and law firms create and execute capital-market legal documents and disseminate data to agents and depositories. Fully authorized by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, the company executed the first fully automated cryptocurrency-denominated bond issuance in 2017 and helped Santander launch the world's first end-to-end blockchain bond in 2019. It raised a $20 million strategic round in February 2019 led by London Stock Exchange Group, with investors including Linklaters, Santander InnoVentures, and Digital Currency Group. It was acquired by Luxembourg fintech NowCM.
