Avail Technologies
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Avail Technologies was a UK haulage recruitment platform for HGV drivers, founded in 2018 by former British Army logistics specialist Erin Short and Callum Clark. Its platform and driver app brought hauliers together with drivers looking for short-term contracts, removing the need for traditional recruitment agencies — so drivers could earn more and hauliers reduce costs while complying with IR35 legislation. By February 2022 it had around 17,000 registered users and was one of only five official recruitment providers to the industry body Logistics UK. It raised around £1 million across three rounds backed by the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (Mercia).
