What the company did
Lalaland (lalaland.ai) was an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based fashion-tech startup founded in 2019 by Michael Musandu and Ugnius Rimsa. It used generative AI to create artificial full-body virtual fashion models for e-commerce brands, aiming to replace traditional human models - cutting costs for vendors and increasing diversity in product representation. In 2022 it won the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge, made the European Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and announced a partnership with Levi Strauss & Co. to test AI-generated models for greater model diversity; it raised EUR 2.1 million in a pre-Series-A round in June 2022.
