What the company did
Maximum Play (recorded as Maximum Games) was a full-service video game publisher and distributor founded in 2009, initially as Maximum Family Games focused on casual Wii and Nintendo DS titles before rebranding as Maximum Games in 2012. It pivoted to physical distribution in North America for European publishers, built a catalogue of over 300 titles, operated the Modus Games publishing label and Modus Studios development team, and worked on releases including Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Among Us and Five Nights at Freddy's. In November 2021 it was acquired by Swedish gaming group Zordix AB for $42 million upfront plus up to $30 million in earnouts.
