01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Riogrande, founded in 2020 in Mexico City by Tono Mandly and Federico Naides, was a Latin American e-commerce aggregator and brand builder: it bought small and mid-size direct-to-consumer brands selling on MercadoLibre and Amazon and built new ones from scratch, focusing on home goods, kitchen and beauty for the region's emerging consumers. Backed by Y Combinator (Summer 2020) and investors including Wollef, it raised a 12 million dollar seed round and later a Series A, and is listed as acquired.
