01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
PEF Technologies B.V. is an Arnhem, Netherlands startup founded in 2018 by Valeriy Mitko (a former University of Twente PhD researcher), run with his wife Yulia Mitko. It develops nanosecond pulsed electric field (nanoPEF) technology — a non-thermal, energy-efficient alternative to pasteurisation for liquid foods. Its machines (500–10,000 litres/hour capacity) inactivate spoilage microorganisms and pathogens below 65°C while retaining taste, flavour and nutritional content, targeting milk, juices, yoghurts and wines.
