Abundant Robotics
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Abundant Robotics developed computer-vision robots for harvesting apples.
02 / Abundant Robotics FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Abundant's liquidation memo blamed the pandemic: after early commercial deployments, it could not build the market traction needed to sustain the business. After a $10M Series A in May 2017, it failed to raise another round; total funding was about $12M. Its robotics-as-a-service model depended on short seasonal harvest windows, and the robot's speed and unit economics could not displace human pickers at scale. It entered liquidation in June 2021 and sold its IP to Wavemaker Labs.
