01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

mobuzz (MobuzzTV) was an early commercial vlogging company founded in March 2005 by CEO and producer Anil de Mello. Its flagship show, 'The Daily Buzz', was a daily three-minute video newscast about tech culture, filmed on a minimal set optimized for small mobile screens, and produced in both English — presented by Karina Stenquist — and Spanish — presented by Iria Gallardo. Episodes continued into September 2008; the company shut down in 2008, before online video had matured into a sustainable media business.

02 / mobuzz FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

MobuzzTV was an early attempt to build a commercial vlogging business that could not find a sustainable model. It produced polished daily video news for a niche, tech-friendly audience at a time when online video advertising and mobile video distribution were still immature; no public postmortem or failure-cause statement was issued. Episodes stopped in late 2008 and the company wound down that year.
