What the company did
ecobee was a Toronto smart-home company founded in 2007 by Stuart Lombard and a pioneer of the smart thermostat market. Its ENERGY STAR-certified thermostats and room sensors intelligently optimized home heating and cooling to deliver significant energy savings, and the lineup later expanded to home monitoring products and a voice-controlled security camera. At its peak it had over 500 employees globally and devices in more than two million North American homes, whose customers saved over 20 TWh of energy.
