01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Notebook Labs was a zero-knowledge identity protocol for Web3 — an identity infrastructure layer that let Web3 protocols create Sybil-resistant logins and let users prove their credentials across wallets and chains without revealing personal information. Built during Stanford's TreeHacks hackathon in 2022 by undergrads Solal Afota, Nathaniel Masfen-Yan, and Dhruv Mangtani, it used zero-knowledge cryptography so protocols could verify users while they kept full control of their data. In October 2022 the company announced a $3.3 million seed round led by Bain Capital Crypto, with Y Combinator, Soma Capital, Abstract Ventures, NFX, and Pioneer Fund participating.
