What the company did
True Fin is a Portland, Maine seafood company launched in 2019 as Gulf of Maine Sashimi, Inc. — the first mission-driven business venture of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute's Gulf of Maine Ventures initiative. Led by president and CEO Jen Levin, it trains local harvesters in specialized handling practices to produce sashimi-grade, fully traceable, sustainable Gulf of Maine fish, paying fishermen a premium over traditional markets. The company buys directly from boats in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, processes fish at its Portland facility, and sells to top chefs, distributors and home cooks nationwide through wholesale and an online retail portal. It remains active, rebuilding its wholesale distribution network.
