twing
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Twing.com was a vertical search engine specializing in internet forum content, operated as a product division of the Jersey City internet company Accoona. Using vertical searching and a crawling robot called Twingbot, it sought out communities based on common forum formats and opened to the public in January 2008.
02 / twing FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors supported by the current evidence
Twing did not fail as a standalone product so much as disappear with its parent. In late November 2008 the Twing.com product vanished from the web when Accoona ceased business operations, taking its product divisions down with it. No independent shutdown announcement for Twing itself is documented.
