What the company did
Battrion was a Swiss battery startup founded in 2015 as a spin-off of ETH Zurich, led by CEO Martin Ebner. It developed fabrication technologies for lithium-ion batteries aimed at dramatically increasing the charging speed of high-energy-density cells. Its core innovation, Aligned Graphite Technology, controlled the orientation of graphite particles to improve the microstructure of the battery's negative electrode - the main bottleneck for fast charging - promising cheaper, faster-charging batteries with lower environmental impact. The company raised more than €7.5 million and won a €100,000 InnoEnergy electrical storage prize.
