ARXUM
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
ARXUM was a Kaiserslautern, Germany-based deep-tech startup founded in 2019 by Markus Jostock and Jens Harig. It built the ARXUM Suite, an industrial blockchain infrastructure and middleware that connected existing IT systems with blockchain-based business logic for secure audit trails, supply chain tracking and cross-company data transfer, later pivoting toward blockchain-based traceability for regulated pharma manufacturing.
02 / ARXUM FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors supported by the current evidence
ARXUM scaled from 3 to 25 employees across Germany, Bulgaria and France and ran 8 publicly funded R&D projects, while its fundraising stayed small (about $1.8M in grants). The company pivoted from manufacturing to GAMP5-compliant pharma traceability and won a Swiss laboratory group as pilot client, but could not build the revenue base to sustain the organization; in January 2024 the Trier court appointed a provisional insolvency administrator, followed by liquidation in April 2024.
