01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
musicube was a Hamburg-based AI music metadata company founded in 2019 by Agnes Chung and David Hoga. Its AI analyzed more than 47–50 million songs, generating 500+ tags (moods, instruments, characteristics, lyric content) to break listeners' filter bubbles; the metadata was delivered via APIs and web widgets to labels, publishers, streaming services and broadcasters, with customers including Sony Music Germany and Budde Music Publishing. In September 2021 musicube raised a $560,000 seed round led by Holger Hübner (Wacken Open Air co-founder), and in 2022 it was acquired by Los Angeles-based B2B music licensing company Songtradr.
