01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Yo was a single-word messaging app launched on April Fools' Day 2014 by Israeli developer Or Arbel. Its only function was to send friends the word "yo" as a text and audio notification — later updated to attach links, locations, and photos. The app became a viral sensation, raising $1 million from investors led by Moshe Hogeg and another $1.5 million that July at a reported $5–10 million valuation, before fading as the novelty wore off.
