01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Simmer was a food-tech startup founded in 2019 by Richard Wu and Vaibhav Verma, graduates of Y Combinator's Summer 2019 batch. It built an app for dish-level reviews: instead of choosing a restaurant on a delivery app and hoping for the best dish, users picked the dish on Simmer, which aggregated and analyzed reviews from blogs, social media, and newspapers with a custom sentiment analyzer, and earned affiliate revenue on the resulting delivery orders.
