01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Jetaport was a New York-based online travel and hotel booking startup founded in 2011 by Jason Shames and Marcos Jaramillo. It simplified booking hotel blocks for groups — weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats — eliminating the painful process of calling hotels multiple times and negotiating room blocks. Built with technology first developed for unmanaged social groups planning trips, it pivoted to group hotel transactions (nine or more rooms) the GDS couldn't handle. Having historically raised $3.8 million, it rebranded as Skipper in 2017 to enhance its platform for groups of all sizes; this was a brand relaunch, not a failure event.
