01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Posmetrics was an in-store customer-feedback startup founded by Harvard sophomores Erik Schluntz and Merrill Lutsky out of a computer-science class project. It put iPads at checkout so shoppers could finish a survey in about 20 seconds, replacing paper comment cards with instant digital feedback for retailers, hotels and restaurants. Accepted into Y Combinator's Winter 2013 class — the founders dropped out of Harvard to move to California — it grew to more than 70 test locations and raised a $510,000 seed round; within four months of its March 2013 public debut it accepted a buyout from hospitality technology company Revinate.
