Hanteng Auto
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Hanteng Autos (Jiangxi Hanteng Automobile Co., Ltd., 汉腾汽车), founded in November 2013 and headquartered in the Shangrao Economic and Technological Development Zone in Jiangxi, was a privately owned Chinese automaker focused on R&D, production and sales of traditional fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles and key automotive parts. Its first model, the Hanteng X7 SUV, rolled off the line in December 2015, followed by the X5 (2016), the X7S and X7 PHEV (2017 Guangzhou Auto Show) and later the X8 and V7.
02 / Hanteng Auto FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
No detailed public account of why Hanteng went bankrupt was found. The small private automaker, which had relied on an acquired modification-vehicle qualification upgraded to a full vehicle license, was swept out in China's brutal EV shakeout: it was reported as having ceased production entirely, and declared bankruptcy in April 2022. No postmortem or founder statement explaining the failure was identified.
03 / EVENT HISTORY
Events in the structured record
- Asset sale
after wage arrears and plant stoppage, Great Wall Motor took over Hanteng Phase II plant/equipment (asset purchase, not corporate rescue).
- Bankruptcy
insider said internal notice to complete bankruptcy reorganization by 25 Apr and sell Phase I factory at low price (低价出售) to GWM; only dozens of staff left. Note: some Qichacha petitions for reorg were reportedly rejected—ending is distressed stoppage/asset disposal, not a confirmed court-accepted bankruptcy order in the opened pieces.
