01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Sovos Brands, founded in 2017 with private-equity backing and later listed on Nasdaq, was a US food company built around premium convenience brands: Rao's Homemade pasta sauces, soups and pastas, Michael Angelo's frozen entrées and frozen pizza, noosa yogurt, and Birch Benders pancake and cake mixes. With Rao's nearing $1 billion in annual sales, it became one of the fastest-growing names in premium packaged food. On March 12, 2024, Campbell Soup Company completed its acquisition of Sovos Brands for $23 per share — an all-cash deal with an enterprise value of about $2.7 billion.
