01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

Covrzy was a Bengaluru-based insurtech founded in 2023 by Ankit Kamra and Veera Thota through Antler's Residency Program. It was a full-stack business insurance aggregator that aimed to make liability insurance simple, personalized, and accessible for India's 60 million-plus MSMEs and startups. The platform streamlined discovery and purchase of essential insurance products - tailoring recommendations to workforce and category of work - with next-generation pricing models, automated onboarding, and a customer service layer across the product lifecycle. It raised a Rs 3.2 crore (~$400K) pre-seed round led by Antler (with Veda VC, Shastra VC), secured IRDAI's direct broking (general) licence in 2024, onboarded 800+ businesses including redBus, Namma Yatri, FlixBus, and YoloBus, and at its peak wrote about 3 lakh policies per month.

02 / Covrzy FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Covrzy wound down after three years primarily due to a persistent financial crunch. According to co-founder and CEO Ankit Kamra, the company started falling apart after co-founder and CTO Veera Thota resigned in 2025 (joining Uber as an engineering manager), triggering a trail of exits from the top deck. The startup also failed to meet its internally set targets. Kamra said Covrzy was exploring an acquisition deal until December 2025, but two M&A bids collapsed - both acquirers required 18-month lock-ins for the founding team, and neither understood the company's core insight into SME and business insurance; they wanted its distribution, not its innovation. With funding exhausted and no buyer, the company shut shop, with Kamra transferring clients to new brokers and finding placements for its 13 remaining employees.
