01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

ANS Commerce was a Gurugram-based full-stack e-commerce enabler founded in 2017 by Amit Monga, Nakul Singh, Sushant Puri, and Vibhor Sahare. It helped brands sell online across the value chain: digital brandstore technology (Kartify), performance marketing, marketplace integrations, warehousing, and fulfillment. It worked with more than 100 brands, including Jack & Jones, Vero Moda, HUL, Lakme, and Nivea. Before being acquired, it raised $2.2 million in pre-Series A funding.

02 / ANS Commerce FAILURE REASONS

Failure reasons

Although ANS Commerce grew operating revenue 39.4% to 54亿卢比 (about US$6.5 million) in FY2024, its net loss widened 27.1% to 73.8亿卢比 (about US$8.9 million), making the financial burden unsustainable. Flipkart, which had acquired the company in 2022, decided to wind down operations as part of a broader restructuring and strategic shift toward profitability ahead of its anticipated public listing.

03 / EVENT HISTORY

Events in the structured record

  1. Acquisition

Inc42 (28 Feb 2025) quoted a Flipkart spokesperson that ANS Commerce had decided to close operations and wind down; NDTV Profit the same day independently quoted the same Flipkart confirmation. This is an explicit shutdown of the acquired D2C e-commerce-enabler unit, not a mere 2022 acquisition. Employee posts and later coverage stated services would fully cease by 31 March 2025.

05 / CAUSAL CHAIN

How the factors connect

  1. 01

In early March 2025, Flipkart informed ANS Commerce staff that the business would cease operations after March 31, 2025, laying off the workforce; media estimates put about 200 employees affected (the company had 600 employees at the end of FY22).

  2. 02

Flipkart confirmed the development, saying it would offer impacted employees internal job opportunities at Flipkart, outplacement services, and severance packages to minimize disruption.

  3. 03

ANS Commerce's operations wound down by the end of March 2025, three years after the 2022 acquisition valued at $35-40 million.
