01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Roomblocker was a San Francisco group hotel-booking startup from Y Combinator's Summer 2015 batch, founded by former Salesforce employees Dave Yen and Michael Wang. Organizers were paired with a dedicated concierge who invited pre-approved hotels to bid for the group's block, presenting pricing and concessions in an online dashboard; guests then booked through a custom group reservation page with a live rooming list and automated reminders. The service was free for groups; Roomblocker earned commissions from hotels on bookings, serving early customers including Salesforce, Dropbox and many weddings.
