02 / Anyways FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors supported by the current evidence
In a 22 December 2022 MT/Sprout interview, co-founder Wesley de Kruijff said Anyways stopped after a major vehicle supplier could no longer meet demand amid COVID-era auto-logistics strain and an overheated used-car market with rising prices; a next multimillion financing round had not closed, and talks on a strategic automotive acquisition fell through because buyers would not proceed under those market conditions.
De Kruijff said a large supplier of the cars Anyways used could no longer meet demand; the used-car market had overheated after COVID logistics problems and prices rose, and putting cars on the company’s own balance sheet was not viable.
He said Anyways was still talking to investors about a round of a few million when the supplier withdrew, and the next millions proved harder to raise than the first seed.
He said talks on a strategic automotive acquisition collapsed because candidate buyers would not take the risk under the then market conditions.
