Emergent Games
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Emergent Games was a joint venture between London video-game studio Maze Theory and blockchain veterans Pluto Digital PLC, focused on Web3 gaming (including the game Resurgence). The two companies later formally merged the venture into Emergent Entertainment PLC — a next-generation entertainment company chaired by former PlayStation EVP Simon Rutter with CEO Ian Hambleton, targeting mixed-reality and Web3 gaming with a proposed valuation exceeding $65 million.
02 / Emergent Games FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors
Fundraising failed while operating cash ran short. Falling crypto-asset values, delayed contracts and weaker game revenue reduced available funds, and cost cuts did not resolve the shortfall.
