01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
FriesDAO was a decentralized autonomous organization that set out to build a crypto-governed fast-food franchise empire. Starting as a joke, it became a serious experiment in running quick-service restaurants via token-holder votes, targeting franchises like Subway, Burger King, Popeye's and Domino's. The DAO raised over $5.4 million through a FRIES token offering in early 2022.
02 / FriesDAO FAILURE REASONS
Failure factors
FriesDAO’s treasury was drained of ~$2.3M after an attacker used the known Profanity vanity-address vulnerability to take over the deployer wallet and refund/staking contracts—crippling the DAO’s capital for restaurant acquisitions.
Profanity exploit let attacker drain ~$2.3M from FriesDAO treasury and staking.
Deployer ownership was not moved to multisig after deployment, leaving contracts controllable via the vanity deployer key.
