What the company did
Highlighter was a Seattle social-reading startup, a TechStars Seattle graduate led by CEO Josh Mullineaux, that launched in summer 2011. Its JavaScript tool let users comment and highlight "in the margins" of websites, targeting academic communities: professors and students could form groups to discuss specific passages in reading materials, with features like class groups and discussion threads. It also built an HTML5 e-reader supporting open educational resources (OER) and open reading platforms.
