01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Songkick Detour was the crowdfunded-tour initiative of UK concert-discovery company Songkick. Fans in a city pledged to attend, and if the pledge target was reached (e.g. 250 fans per city on the 2013 Andrew Bird Latin America tour, spanning 12 cities from Bogota to Sao Paulo), the concert was confirmed and pledges converted into tickets; fans in cities that missed the target were never charged. It was Songkick's answer to artists rarely touring underserved markets.

03 / EVENT HISTORY
Events in the structured record
- Launched
Detour launches with the 'largest crowdfunded tour ever': Andrew Bird's 12-city Latin America tour, concerts held Feb 17–28, 2013.
- Founded as entity
Detour recorded as founded 2015 (per record). Songkick merges with artist-ticketing firm CrowdSurge in 2015, raising $16M.
- Parent company shut
After a bruising legal battle with Live Nation/Ticketmaster (antitrust and trade-secret claims), Songkick shuts its ticketing operations on October 31, 2017; the discovery app is sold to Warner Music Group in July 2017. No separate shutdown of Detour was publicly reported.
