01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Jebbit was a Boston-based, venture-backed marketing technology startup founded in 2011 by college dropouts Tom Coburn and Jonathan Lacoste. It built the world's first 'declared data' platform: marketers used interactive experiences — custom quizzes, surveys and lookbooks — to capture first-party data consumers volunteered about themselves, instead of inferring it from third-party data. Customers included travel, ecommerce and sports brands such as Cathay Pacific, LifeLock and the Houston Rockets. Having raised over $22 million, it was acquired by BlueConic, a customer data platform, on July 10, 2024; this was not a failure event.
