Suggestr
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Suggestr was a Singapore AI startup founded in 2021 by Aditya Mehta and Oleksii Sidorov, accepted into Y Combinator Winter 2022. It built an AI recommendation engine that brought Amazon-level product personalization to smaller e-commerce brands, working with more than 100 brands and generating over half a million dollars in additional sales for its customers.
02 / Suggestr FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
The product worked but did not solve a burning problem for anyone: growth slowed to a halt, customers said one thing and hesitated to pay, and the founders concluded the market was too small to scale to the venture level they envisioned. With runway nearly gone, they made the hard decision to shut Suggestr down in 2022 and start again.
