01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Moodstocks was a Paris-based machine learning startup founded in 2008 by Denis Brule and Cedric Deltheil, sometimes called the 'Shazam for images'. Its technology turned a smartphone camera into a scanner able to recognize objects in real time, later offered as a cloud-based image-recognition API used by about 2,200 developers worldwide, with clients including brands such as Redcats, Kingfisher, Kiabi and Casino. In July 2016 Google acquired Moodstocks; the team joined Google's Paris research and development center while the standalone API and SDK were discontinued.
