01 / WHAT IT BUILT

What the company did

HowAboutWe was a Brooklyn-based online dating and relationships company launched in 2010 by childhood friends and former educators Aaron Schildkrout and Brian Schechter. Its core product let users propose date ideas and connect over shared real-world activities rather than endless profiles; it also ran HowAboutWe for Couples (a subscription date-planning service), the You&Me messaging app, and the media arm HowAboutWe Media, which acquired the sex-and-culture magazine Nerve.com in January 2014. It raised more than $22 million and had over 2.3 million users by January 2014.
