01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Exec was an on-demand errand and home-cleaning marketplace founded in early 2012 by Justin.tv co-founder Justin Kan, a Y Combinator startup once dubbed 'an Uber for TaskRabbit.' Its iPhone app dispatched part-time errand runners at a flat rate of $25 to do pickups, drop-offs, cleaning, and research in real time. Unable to scale the errands business, it folded its personal-assistant service in late 2013 and pivoted to home cleaning across nine markets, before being acquired by competitor Handybook in January 2014.
