01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
betty.football was a Porto-based startup founded in 2017 by Miguel Pinho Moreira, building what it billed as the world's first AI football assistant. The Betty app, owned by Portuguese company Oddacy, gave users real-time predictions of what would happen in a football match - when a goal might happen, when the lead might change - framed as messages along the match timeline, plus in-the-moment statistics and commentary on dramatic events like VAR decisions, penalties and red cards. It ran on more than 150 algorithms with ChatGPT integration, covered the world's top leagues pre- and in-game, and translated its messages in real time into six languages. It raised about $967,000, including a €300,000 convertible note from Clever Advertising and Fortera Innovation in November 2022, and officially launched with the Premier League kickoff in August 2023. No public source documents a shutdown or failure.
