Bridj
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Bridj, founded in Boston in 2014, ran an on-demand microtransit bus service: riders booked seats on 14-passenger shuttles via a mobile app, with algorithmically generated routes. It operated in Boston, Washington DC and Kansas City with the local transit authority and Ford.
02 / Bridj FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
CEO Matt George said the company had bet on a major financing deal with an automotive company instead of raising a traditional venture round. When the deal fell through despite months of assurances, Bridj exhausted its funds and began winding down US operations on April 30, 2017. Its technology assets were acquired by Australia's Transit Systems that October and relaunched in Sydney.
