01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Muni Tienda (Muni) was a Colombian community group buying platform founded in 2019 in Bogotá by María Echeverri Gomez, a Stanford MBA who had led global grocery operations at Rappi. Muni sought to bring e-commerce to Latin America's middle-income households through community leaders who centralized orders via a WhatsApp online store: neighbors placed orders, suppliers dropped them with Muni, and the community leader handled last-mile delivery and cash payments, earning additional income at no cost. The platform operated in Colombia, Mexico and Brazil with over 15,000 community leaders, 40,000+ customers and 6,000 SKUs, and raised a $20 million Series A in March 2022 led by Lightspeed Venture Partners (with Monashees and Pear VC). One company-profile source lists its operating status as closed; no shutdown announcement or acquisition has been documented.
