01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Kisan Network was a Y Combinator Winter 2016 agritech startup founded in 2016 by the father-son duo of Sanjay Agarwalla and Aditya Agarwalla. It ran an online marketplace and tech-enabled supply chain that connected small and marginal Indian farmers directly to institutional buyers and businesses across the country - bypassing opaque local middlemen - with each step digitally captured and monitored. By 2020 it had onboarded over 55,000 farms across more than 6,000 villages and helped facilitate sales of produce traveling 275,000 kilometers over 65 routes.
