Seasony
The business, the turning points, and the decisions behind them.
01 / WHAT IT BUILT
What the company did
Seasony was a Danish mobile-robotics startup founded in 2018 by Christopher Weis Thomasen. It built Watney, an autonomous mobile robot for vertical farms that automated transport and positioning tasks, collected data and provided actionable insights, sold under a robotics-as-a-service model to make indoor farming more scalable and profitable.
02 / Seasony FAILURE REASONS
Failure reasons
Seasony ceased operations because it could not secure further funding. Co-founder and CEO Christopher Weis Thomasen said that despite advanced dialogues with several investors inside and outside the controlled-environment agriculture space, the company did not find the right investor to continue. It operated for five years and closed only weeks after announcing a 1.5 million euro seed round in December 2023.
